Farm Work for Backpackers in New Zealand

New Zealand is known as the land of sheep, but there is more to Kiwi farms than sheep, and what kind of farms you work can work on, depends very much on the area of New Zealand you live in. Some areas are mainly sheep farms, other areas are filled with cattle, and then there are of course also farms that produce grains and vegetables. Finding a short-term farm job that pays (i.e. not via wwoof or similar schemes) is not very easy as farmers tend to prefer people who can stay for a whole season as it takes time for people to be trained and to learn their way around the farm. Farm work in New Zealand can be very rewarding, but you should ideally be willing to commit to a longer time.
