Farm Assistant for Sheep Milking Farm - Waikato
We are looking for a challenge-loving assistant to join our family-owned and run sheep milking farm located between Te Awamutu and Otorohanga in the Waikato.
We will be milking 1200 dairy ewes for the 2023 season, in a newly converted herringbone milking parlor. The other side of the operation is rearing 650 lambs in a newly built indoor system. The farm is approx. 80ha of effective grazing platform.
Sheep milking is still a new and growing industry in NZ, so are looking for someone who is up for the challenge that this relatively uncharted territory can bring. We would like someone with previous dairy experience who is happy to try their hand applying those skills to sheep.
We need someone with a good eye for detail, good animal health skills, and someone who is gentle with stock.
In this role you will be expected to:
- Maintain animal health practices and look out for health issues during each milking and when moving stock
- Maintain a high level of hygiene in the milking shed
- Move groups of stock
- Use the tractor to mow and feed out to stock
- Maintain farm in terms of weed control and fences
- Communicate effectively with all other team members
This role also has the opportunity for a partner to work on farm and help with lamb rearing for 3-4 months of the year and relief milking available too.
The role offers a newly renovated, three bedroom house with nice outdoor area and garage with separate storage room. Competitive salary reflective of the candidates experience.
The role is available from 10th of July 2023 onwards.
You must be legally allowed toward in NZ for more than 1 year.
Time off: 2-3 days in a 14 day period.
