Hostel Assistant Manager

We're on the lookout for a passionate and proactive Hostel Assistant Manager to support the day-to-day operations of our Brownston Hostel in Wanaka. This is a unique opportunity to lead a dedicated team, deliver exceptional guest experiences, and help foster a positive and values-driven hostel culture.

As the Hostel Assistant Manager you'll play a key role in supporting the Hostel Manager to lead the accommodation team and ensure round-the-clock care for both guests and staff. You'll foster a respectful and inclusive hostel environment through strong pastoral care, while managing bookings, guest queries, and third-party listings. Your responsibilities will include overseeing cleaning schedules, stock control, and building maintenance, as well as participating in the Manager on Call rota to respond to urgent issues. You'll also lead and mentor hostel staff, conduct performance reviews, and champion our values across the team. Additionally, you'll assist with financial tasks such as banking, reconciliation, and coordinating payroll deductions for staff accommodation.

Please note: these are live-in only positions, and applicants must have the current right to work in New Zealand. Priority will be given to those available for the full summer season.

What You'll Bring

Accommodation management experience
Proven leadership in housekeeping and maintenance scheduling.
Familiarity with booking platforms and stock control.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Highly organised, adaptable, and solution-focused.
A team player who leads by example and thrives under pressure.
Preferred: First aid/fire warden training, pastoral care experience, and crisis response.
