Job Description

A newly converted dairy farm is seeking an experienced Calf Rearer to take full responsibility for the calf rearing operation during the upcoming calving season.

This is a key role on the farm and would suit someone who enjoys taking ownership, working independently, and delivering excellent animal welfare outcomes. You'll be responsible for raising calves from arrival through to weaning while working alongside a supportive farm team.

Being part of a newly established dairy operation means you'll have the opportunity to help set standards, implement systems, and contribute to the development of a modern farming business from the ground up.

Tasks:
Managing the day-to-day calf rearing operation
Feeding calves and preparing milk or milk replacer
Monitoring calf health and wellbeing
Tubing calves when required
Administering treatments and maintaining health records
Identifying and responding to animal health issues
Maintaining excellent hygiene standards within calf facilities
Managing weaning programmes and growth targets
Ensuring high animal welfare standards are maintained at all times

Requirements:
Proven calf rearing experience is essential
Ability to work independently and manage a calf rearing programme
Confident tubing calves and recognising common calf health issues
Strong attention to detail
Good communication and record-keeping skills
Reliable, organised, and self-motivated
Legal right to work in New Zealand (Working Holiday Visa accepted)
