Sea-kayaking Guide

Pohatu penguins is looking for friendly and conservation minded staff to join the family team.
We are a small business operating small group tours from Akaroa to isolated Pōhatu/Flea Bay and Pōhatu Marine Reserve with a focus on endemic wildlife and conservation of penguins.

Conservation for the little penguin is at the heart of what we do and the reason we operate. We have different options sharing the history behind the self-funded conservation project to save the little penguin such as nature tours, sea-kayaking safaris and evening penguin tours solely focused on the penguins.

We are looking for a sea-kayaking guide who feels comfortable driving 4WD mini-van on steep, narrow, gravel road. Guide will be leading groups of different sizes around the marine reserve allowing guests to safely encounter New Zealand wildlife while delivering commentary.

Applicants need to:
- hold a current P endorsement
- hold a kayaking qualification or be able to prove of at least 2 years of guiding
- having knowledge of New Zealand wildlife (birds, sea-mammals…)
- should be comfortable talking in public to different group sizes
- be able to work flexible hours
- be able to work in a team or on their own
- should be passionate about New Zealand, its history and wildlife
- have an interest in conservation
Note that further specific training related to areas would be provided.
Ideally this job would suit someone that loves working outdoors, meeting new people everyday and love working with wildlife.
