Part of the Hermitage Hotel, Glacier Explorers offers a unique experience in New Zealand. Our guides take guests on a fun and informative boat excursion, interacting around icebergs and up to the mighty terminal face of NZ’s largest glacier.
Our guides are responsible for sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm for the area with our guests. No day on the Tasman Lake is ever the same and this offers variety and challenge like no other role.

What your day will look like:
You will be taking our groups and individuals on a guided interpretative trek in some of NZ's most amazing scenery, all the while ensuring a high standard of health and safety is maintained. Key responsibilities include:
• Checking in guests and ensuring trips depart on time
• Presenting to groups and providing safety briefings
• Providing informative commentary with your own personal style and flair
• Guiding walks along tracks within the National Park
• Ensuring a high level of Health and Safety is maintained

About you:
• While previous guiding or trekking experience is preferred, we provide training to ensure you're kept up to speed with our products, our services, our standards and our expectations.
• We cater to large groups of international guests and with this is mind you'll need to speak English and be fluent in Japanese
• Excellent at communicating with a diverse range of guests;
• Experienced at presenting in front of others with previous guiding experience in an outdoor environment; and
• Able to understand different cultures, specifically Japanese culture
• To be successful in this role you need be willing to multi-task and be flexible in your approach to work. Our Japanese speaking staff may be required to assist other departments with translation and act as guides for other activities such as Stargazing and Glacier Explorers.
• Our teams live and work together so it's important that you have a positive attitude and an enthusiasm for working alongside and with others.

• All positions at Aoraki Mt Cook Alpine Village Ltd have subsidised accommodation as part of our unique lifestyle package, with the weekly board rates including WiFi and power. Due to the idyllic, isolated location of Mt Cook, you will need to be comfortable working and living in a remote location. Please note, this role requires you to live in Aoraki / Mt Cook Village
